Dear friends,

Greetings and a Happy New Year from your co-workers to the Portuguese-Speaking world!

And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15NIV).

God is always amazing us; when we look back on last year and see the spiritual growth of our leaders in Brazil and how God is using them, we are amazed. They've been sent to preach, and as the Scripture says their feet are beautiful.

As you know, our ministry is all about bringing people to know Christ, disciple them and empower them to work in God’s Kingdom. We are very blessed to have a team both in Brazil, and in Mozambique, doing a marvelous job. In the last 9 months, the team in Brazil, through our orientation, has done 8 women's outreaches, 8 men's outreaches, 5 children's outreaches, and 6 Youth outreaches. The churches are strong and growing. I (Jeff) have a monthly leadership meeting with the church leaders; the last one, Saturday Jan. 15, lasted 3 ½ hours. I wrote 12 sermons to be preached at all the churches in Brazil and Mozambique on the first 12 days of the year that set our vision for this year, and for the next 10 years of our ministry in those countries. I just finished writing 28 weeks of Discipleship material that is used weekly at the home groups in Brazil and at the villages’ churches in Mozambique. I give orientation by e-mail daily to the church leaders in Brazil and to our missionaries in Mozambique.

Here are some pictures of these outreaches and other events in Brazil (These Pictures Reflects Only The Some of The Work From June to December 2010):

Here are some prayer requests . . .
Thanks for praying for Monica’s health; she is doing a lot better, but please continue to pray for her complete healing.
Please pray that we will have all the funds needed to continue the work in Brazil and Mozambique. We need an extra $818.67 (US Dollars) per month to meet our budget.
Pray that we will have funds for the “Hands On” Bible College. We need $700 (US Dollars) per month to run the “Hands On” Bible College in Brazil; we already have $150.00 committed per month for this purpose. We have 10 students registered, and we intend to re-start classes in February. With $70 (US Dollars) per month, you can sponsor one student. Could you be a sponsor for at least one student?
Pray for the churches and the leaders in Brazil, for the churches, the school and the leaders in Mozambique, and please pray for us!
Please make plans for us to visit you and your church!
Here is our updated agenda:

February 27 – Weber City Christian Church (VA)

Dear friends,
Greetings from your co-workers to the Portuguese-Speaking world!

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29.11NIV).

This verse has been part of our lives for many years now! When we planned to move back to Brazil in 2001 this verse was in our minds; when Monica went to her open brain surgery on April 1st, 2008, this was the last verse she told us before she went to the operating room. Through the years, on many occasions, God has continued to show us the plans He has for us and He is continuing to do so. With this in mind let us share with you some of these plans as we report what God has been doing in our lives.

Here are some highlights of our lives since we wrote last:

We enjoyed lunch with Tim Wallingford, senior minister at FCC-JC (First Christian Church in Johnson City), on Wednesday June 30. Brother Tim is interest in knowing more about our work to the Portuguese-Speaking world. After lunch we drove to Knoxville and we had dinner at Ben and Carla Lutz's residence that evening. After dinner Ben, who is BRLM (Brazil River of Life Ministries) President and I (Jeff) had a meeting to talk about the ministry.

On Thursday July 1, we enjoyed brunch at Dr. David and Margaret Eubanks' residence. It was great visit! That evening Monica, Roger and Isaac practice with SHCC (Seymour Heights Christian Church) Praise Team for Sunday worship.

We had dinner at Jim & Nancy Knowles's on Friday July 2; Jim and Nancy are BRLM board members.

We had the opportunity of visiting my niece, Anna Fife-Offshack's family who live in Knoxville on Saturday July 3. It was great to play with our great-nephew Joshua.

I preached, Monica sang, and Roger and Isaac played the drums at SHCC both a.m. services on Sunday July 4. We had dinner at John and Sherry Leech's residence, and in the evening we had the American 4th of July hamburgers at Norm and Mary Dungan residence and they took us to see the concert and fireworks in downtown Knoxville.

A couple from SHCC blessed us with tickets for Dollywood and we spent Monday July 5 there. This was a plus!

The trip to Knoxville was a blessing; during the time we were there we stayed at the apartment beside Bob and Sue Berry’s house. We had a great visit with the Berry’s. We came back to Elizabethton on Wednesday July 7.

Saturday July 10, I preached at FCC-JC's Saturday Night Service. After service we went to Ron and LeAnne Blackmore's residence for dinner. Ron is an elder and he is our contact person for the Missions team at FCC-JC. By the way, if you are looking for a book to read Standard Publishing just released LeAnne Blackmore's book Obscure No More.

We drove back to Knoxville on Thursday July 15 to meet with Ben Lutz and the lawyer that takes care of BRLM documentation, and drove back home on the same day.

Sunday July 25, we presented the ministry at HCC (Howard Christian Church) Sunday School (Howard, PA), and during that week we were the missionaries of the week at Sylvan Hills Christian Service Camp. Our good friend Scott Brand who is the senior minister at HCC was the dean of the week at camp and invited us to come. We had a great time, Scott did a super job as dean and we really enjoyed our time at the camp and visiting with the Brands’.

Our friends Mike and Sarah Delp invited us to come to Stillwater Christian Church (Stillwater, PA) on Sunday August 1, and we had a great time visiting them that weekend.

Roger and Isaacs’ school year started on August 5. Roger is a senior at Elizabethton High School and Isaac is an 8th grader at T.A. Dugger Junior High. They are loving school and are doing very well! Both are involved in sports and Isaac plays in the band.
In May, Monica and I were surfing the internet and seeing the possibilities of colleges for Roger and we noticed that Milligan College offers a Fine Arts Degree. Monica is gifted with arts, and she always dreamed of studying Fine Arts. In the ministry in Brazil Monica does all the materials for the Children's Ministry. We felt that it was like God whispering for us to apply for Monica to study at Milligan, so by faith we did. The summer went by and we did not hear anything from Milligan. The week before classes were supposed to start we received an e-mail that Monica was accepted. We thank Milligan for accepting her, but we told them that we did not have the financial resources and Monica needed scholarships, in order for her to study. On Thursday August 12, two days before Matriculation for New Students, we received the news that Monica was awarded a full scholarship, including fees, and she only needed to buy the books. So Monica started her fall semester at Milligan College on Saturday August 14. We serve a mighty God! She is at Milligan from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, although she has missed three days of school because of her health, but she is loving the opportunity to study! For me the fall semester at Emmanuel started on Thursday august 26.
Brother Sergio who is the minister at the Portuguese-Speaking church planted in Atlanta (Marietta), GA, by Hisportic Christian Mission with Carl Bookout invited us to come for their first anniversary celebration September 11 & 12. Saturday morning we had a leadership meeting to talk about the 2011 Gathering in Atlanta that will be held right after the National Missionary Convention for the Portuguese-Speaking church leaders in the USA and Canada. There are over 1.5 million Portuguese-Speaking people in North America! Saturday night I preached at the anniversary celebration service that was also a missionary conference. The church in Atlanta is already supporting the work in Guinea Bissau. The Portuguese-Speaking 2011 Gathering in Atlanta will be held at NWCC (Northwest Christian Church) so we went with a group from the Portuguese-Speaking Church there on Sunday morning. My parents (Tom & Libby) drove to Atlanta and participated in the weekend celebration with us!
Annual Missions Emphasis Sunday at Colonial Heights Christian Church September 19, was a great time for us to see family and friends.
We had the opportunity to make a ministry presentation for the Prime Timers Sunday School class at FCC-JC on September 26.
Our new friend Greg Key, senior minister at Westside Christian Church in Elizabethton, TN, invited us to visit his church on Sunday October 3.
Oct 13, we celebrate Monica’s birthday!
I continue to write the weekly discipleship material, the monthly journal for the Portuguese-Speaking Churches. We have monthly Skype Elders meeting with Campo Limpo and Jundiai Churches; every three months we have Skype Leadership meetings with all the church leaders in Sao Paulo area. This has been a great way to keep in touch with the work in Brazil, plus we answer dozens of e-mails every week and we make a few phone calls every month. The churches are doing very well, and the ministry there is overflowing.
We would like to thank all our friends and family for the hospitality and love as we travel visiting our supporting churches. We are looking forward to spending more time with you all in the near future. Thanks for being a blessing in our lives.
Here are some prayer requests . . .
  • Thanks for praying for Monica’s health; she is doing a lot better, but please continue to pray for her complete healing.
  • Please pray that we will have all the funds needed to continue the work in Brazil and Mozambique, plus our living expenses. We need an extra $1,075.34 (US Dollars) per month to meet our budget.
  • Pray that we will have funds to be able to re-start the Bible College classes in Campo Limpo in January. We need $700 (US Dollars) per month to run the Bible College, and because we had no funds, we had to cancel all classes for this year. We have 10 students who want to study so they can become evangelists and ministers of the new churches that we will plant in the future. If we could get 10 monthly gifts of $70 each we could re-open the Bible College. Could you be a sponsor for one student?
  • Pray for the churches and the leaders in Brazil, for the churches, the school and the leaders in Mozambique, and please pray for us!

Please make plans for us to visit you and your church!

God is good all the time and all the time God is good!
In His love and service,

Jeff, Monica, Roger and Isaac Fife

Dear friends,
Greetings from your co-workers to the Portuguese-Speaking world!

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. (Acts 20.28 NIV). As Paul met for the last time with the elders from the Ephesus church in Miletus he spoke these words that we find in Acts 20. When we left Brazil on March 31st, we shared these same words with the elders in Sao Paulo, although we plan to see them again, hopefully soon. It is always very important to remember that the Church belongs to the Lord, bought with His own blood and for this reason our responsibility is even greater. We pray that the elders and ministers of the churches in Brazil will be blessed as they shepherd God’s Church.

When we arrive in the USA on April 1st our planes were to:
1. Get Roger through his last year of High School and in to College.
2. Visit all of our supporters.
3. Raise new support.
But as we all know well “Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19.21 NIV). We did come earlier than we planned so we could participate at my (Jeff's) parents (Tom & Libby Fife) 50th Ministerial Anniversary on April 5th at ESR (Emmanuel School of Religion). Robert, my oldest brother, who is a missionary to Portugal and is a graduate from ESR (2006) presented me at ESR and I was encouraged to apply for a Master of Divinity Scholarship. By the grace of God I received a Full Presidential Scholarship. This has changed our plans dramatically, as most of you may know the M.Div. at ESR is a 90 hours masters. So these are our new plans, if our supporters agree; (all the supporters we have visited until now have agreed.)

During the school years that I’ll be going to ESR, we will be going to Brazil every summer to keep in contact with the churches and continue to encourage them to plant a new church every other year. Around the Campo Limpo and Jundiai areas, there are 15 cities, with a total population of over 4 million. Our goal is to plant a church in each of these cities. During the school year we will continue to write the weekly discipleship material, the monthly journal for the Portuguese-Speaking churches. We will advise them and meet with the churches' leaders monthly via Skype. We are open to speak, teach and help our supporting churches, in all areas that we can, as well as, hopefully, new supporting congregations. Also we will be speaking at Portuguese-Speaking churches in the USA.

We will need your prayers and financial support more than ever, because all the work that is supported by BRLM in Brazil and Mozambique will continue, plus we will need to survive in the USA, and raise money to travel to Brazil every year and to Mozambique every two years. We intend to visit the work in Mozambique on the winter break. Next trip to Mozambique I'd like to be able to take Monica.

Please pray for us and if you have any questions about our plans, please call or write us; we will be happy to answer your questions.

Here are some highlights of our lives in the last 90 days:
Before we left Brazil we were blessed to be able to dedicate a rental location for the Jundiai church on Saturday March 27, so now they no longer have to meet in a restaurant. I preached at Jundiai church in the morning and at Campo Limpo Church in the evening on Sunday March 28.
We celebrated, along with many family members and friends, my parents' 50th Ministerial Anniversary on April 5th at ESR, and at Central Christian Church in Jonesborough, TN, on Wednesday April 7th. We visited FCC, Johnson City, TN, April 10,21 & 25 and Seymour Heights CC, Seymour, TN, April 14 & 18.

Monica and I went to Nashville, TN, for the World Convention board meeting on April 15-17. Monica is the president for the 2012 Women's Global Connecting and I’m the liaison person for the Brazilian National Committee for the World Convention in Brazil in 2012.
We celebrate Roger’s 17th birthday (April 30) in Dallas, TX, in since he is a big Mavericks fan we took him to the America Airline Center.
We participated in Valley View CC, Dallas, TX, Missions Fair on May 1 & 2.
Roger and I had breakfast and prayer time with pastor Ron Key from Cornerstone CC, Dallas, TX, on May 3.
I had the opportunity to teach a six week Sunday School class (May 9th - June 13th) at First CC, Johnson City, TN, on an Overview of the Restoration (Stone-Campbell) Movement.
We met with Colonial Heights CC, Kingsport, TN, Missions Team on May 16th and on June 7th with First CC, Johnson City, TN, Missions Team.
Our first Skype Elders meeting with elders from Campo Limpo and Jundiai Churches was on May 29th. The churches are doing very well!On June 4th we drove to Charlotte, NC, to renew Monica’s Green Card.
Isaac asked to celebrate his 13th birthday (June 16th) at Fun Expedition in Johnson City, TN.
Monica represented the Women's Global Connection at the Quadrennial Assembly in Greensboro, NC, on June 21-27. She is inviting the ladies to come to Brazil in 2012 for the Women’s Gathering during the World Convention.
God is always taking care of us; we were blessed with a car given to us (2001 Mercury Sable). Since ESR did not have housing available for us we had to rent a house outside campus, and the Lord blessed us with a home at the East Tennessee Christian Home, in Elizabethton, TN, they are charging us the same rent we would pay at ESR plus utilities. The house had some furniture, but through the generosity of God’s people we have received moving-in donations, furniture, food and etc. God is good!
Here are some highlights from the ministry in Mozambique:
The soccer field that they were building when we visited the Hope School in Feb 2009 is ready and they already have a team playing in the Nampula City tournament. They are building a girls' dorm for the girls who have no family, or their family left them at the School because they cannot raise them. At the present they have 19 girls living at the school. They are building a prayer room African-style. They build the roof, and then the walls. The foundation for a guest house at the Hope School campus is ready; as God sends the funds they will continue this construction.

Here are some highlights from the churches in Brazil:
The churches are continuing with all the ministries that we used to take care of; it is a blessing to see them working! The Jundiai church had their first Men’s Breakfast on April 4th and their first Women’s Tea on May 15th.
The Campo Limpo church had their Men’s Breakfast on May 29th and their Women’s Tea on June 12th.
Here are some prayer requests . . .

Please pray that we will have all the funds needed to continue the work in Brazil, Mozambique and our living expenses. We need an extra $2,248.34 (US Dollars) per month to meet our budget.
Pray that we will have funds to be able to re-start the Bible College classes in Campo Limpo in August. We need $700 (US Dollars) per month to run the Bible College, and because we had no funds, we had to cancel all classes for the first semester of this year. We have 10 students who want to study so they can become evangelists and ministers of the new churches that we will plant in the future. If we could get 10 monthly gifts of $70 each we could re-open the Bible College. Could you be a sponsor for one student?
